CUT
Roll Finger with wrapped normal thumb
FIT
Very snug, Purchased size 10, and I’m usually size 10. When it got damp got a very tight glove, and a bit of a struggle to get on but when on, perfect fit. Though if you aren’t overly keen on a really snug fit glove then would go up half a size.
LATEX
4mm German Supersoft, decent enough grip, doesn’t have the severe tackiness some gloves seem to have these days, but still when using it has a really solid grip, and with the tighter fit, can get good control over catching the ball, even when grip is reduced by severe mud. Found in drier weather, the latex dries up pretty quickly, and needs a lot of moistening during games, more than any glove I’ve had in the past!
FEATURES
Finger protection? No.
Wrapped Thumb
Stretch Zone between thumb and index to help prevent splitting
Full latex Backhand with new logo design
Bandage Wrist 3 Point Velcro Wrist Closure with mesh area
REVIEW
As many of you know I’ve been a React fan through and through for the past 12 months or so, having some excellent experiences with the gloves, and for the first time I stuck with a brand for a long time! The way circumstances went, (As mad as it will sound) Came up short in match gloves, had played with my React’s the Thursday night, and had got caught up in the net and ripped off all the surface latex on both palms and had no other gloves which would of been ok in time, with have games Saturday and on the Wednesday had another game for soham U18’s. With React being sold out of all size 10’s, I went with something new and decided to go for the Great save OneSport SMU after it was a good price and people had spoke highly of the Onesport gloves. Service from Great-save was as per usual top notch, I believe I ordered them on the Saturday evening, and they were at my door by Tuesday, which with Sunday being a non-working day for the postal service, good stuff !!
They arrived in the packet which is used by pretty much all brands nowadays, the black fold over Velcro entried packet. No instruction’s came with the gloves, simply the gloves in the packets. Very powdery on initial trying on, and were in need of a prewash.
I gave the gloves one long pre-wash and I deemed them good enough for a warm up in etc. I washed them through thoroughly again after and this brought the best grip out of the gloves. The grip was an interesting one, I’ve had quite a few new gloves throughout this season and last, and all seem to have that real tackiness to the grip from the start, but when dirty soon fades away…this didn’t have a tackiness from the start, and it almost makes you more alert to catch it. The really snug fit and slight curve to the fingertips makes up for the lack of tackiness in a way, as you get that really controlled wrap around the ball. The only real issue I’ve had with the grip, even if really soaked the gloves with water at the start of the warm up, a few shots later, the surface has dried up quite a bit and more spit/water needs to be added. I am not sure if this is a feature of SS as haven’t had many SS gloves to date. This does aid to Martin’s words in his video review of the glove saying it is an all weather glove, which I would say would be more towards wet than dry, down to the sheer fact it needs to be kept moist a lot of the time. The grip in general though is a solid enough grip and I’ve have no really problems with it, and I’ve played in the gloves 4 games now and have one big 3 hour sessions in them and they are still gripping exactly the same as before.
A nice addition to the glove is on the wrist strap, there is 3 Velcro point’s rather than the usual two, I do think it is a nice addition, it does help keep the wrist strap in place and nicely secure. On the topic of the wrist strap, initially I thought it would be too think and be quite weak, but after using the gloves in matches and training it is a very secure wrist strap, and for me not to long, so for those with think wrist’s, it may be a little bit short, not sure if I’m honest! The pull loop on the bandage is a nice addition which quite a few brands like React and KA still have, but some don’t, and I think it really is a massive help! The personalisation box on the wrist strap is also a nice addition, thought it is quite small so I doubt you could get much in there if great-save was to personalise them.
The backhand and design is very original and is really nice, I like the full latex backhand though, it does make the glove A little snugger than I sometimes like. The slits in the backhand in which the glove is made up of different parts of latex helps with Fit, makes there be no baggage on the backhand.
Overall, as the first glove I’ve tried from Onesport, I can tell these are a well established brand and have a very good glove on their hands. I wouldn’t have any qualms in suggesting this glove to others if they wanted to try something new at a good price. One thing I must congratulate Onesport on, is they are the first brand from the brands I would classify as “newish” to the market in which the black from the logo on the backhand and brand name on the index doesn’t come off when washed!! Logo still looks the same as it did out of the packet with no sign of fade. Overall a good glove, in which makes me interested in future released from Onesport.
I intend on doing like Paul does in updating the review through usage, I have two definite games left of the season so shall probably where them in both of those!!
Any questions ask, and apologies for it being long!!
