Cech and Chelsea in crisis? This Weeks Big Keeper Discussion

cech

Today Chelsea stopper Petr Cech has handed under-fire Andre Villas-Boas a vote of confidence, saying the players are to blame for Chelsea’s current crisis – not the manager.

It’s not just the Chelsea manager under pressure. over the past few weeks Cech has seen much criticism edged towards himself and his performances between the sticks. Cech was again left frustrated last night as he let Manuel Friedrich’s last-gasp header slip through his grasp, meaning Chelsea must beat Valencia needing a win to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

In this weeks big keeper discussion we want to know what your thought’s are on the Chelsea stopper, is he really over the hill as many are saying? or is it just a lack of confidence in the side?  Is it unfair to right off such a good goalkeeper?

Let us know your thoughts…..

No way, Petr is the best goalkeeper in the world in my opinion. I am not saying he is the best shot stopper in the world as I think that would be out of Hugo Lloris, Manuel Neuer or Iker Casillas. But as an overall goalkeeper no one is in his league, he and Pepe Reina are the only goalkeepers i know who will come and collect a cross and distribute early leading to an attack. We seen keepers like Casillas last season in the Champions League when Real Madrid played Tottenham, he didn’t win aireal battles with Dawson and he is not even one of the best aireal wise in the Premier League, I think If Iker was to come to the Premier League he would be on about par with Tim Howard. Petr is simply not at the top of his game at the minute, I don’t think he has ever reached the heights he dis before his injury where personally I believe he was better than Peter Schmeichel, Cech is prone to the mistake but truthfully I watch every minute he plays club and international level every season and for example last season I must of watched him play nearlly 60 games and he only made about 4 mistakes at most, where I watched the likes of Casillas probabley 20 times and seen him make as many. The header against Bayer was unlucky to be honest, although he never fully stretched I don’t think he was reaching it. That is the part of his game I question sometimes, he doesn’t seem to attempt to save shots what he thinks are past him but then other times he goes for shots which he shouldn’t be getting anywhere near like his save vs Manchester United in 06/07 i believe, which was unbelievable. Also he saves alot with his legs like alot of goalkeepers from easten europe which lets him down at times like the Andre Santos shot he let in at Arsenal. He gets beat alot at his neat post but I dont think this is a paticuarly bad thing as it shows he is not shy of conceding there which is a good trait to have in the Prem. One more thing about him is how far he comes off his line when the opposition are within 25 yards, you might not of noticed but he comes out twice as far as any other keeper which os strange. But overall I think Petr is still the best goalkeeper on the world but just in bad form which isn’t helped by having such a poor defence this season.
